Printer installation failed
Sometimes, people try to install a printer driver but installation fails prematurely, even when the driver is downloaded from Windows Update or Microsoft Update Catalog. The first thing to check in these cases is to see if Print Spooler service is up and running.
Tune-up software like System Mechanics and TuneUp Utilities love to disable Windows Services that they deem unnecessary. They often ask user if he uses a printer. The user who has not connect a physical printer to his computer answers “no”. Result: Exit the the Print Spooler service. (See also: Wow! I had so many printers and I didn’t know?)
